Experimentation on Fishing net making technique
Hand made fishing net with a trace of the life behind – Aramid + Recycled fishing net
The scene of a local motorcycle taxi driver hand knitting a small fishing net at his stand next to a canal will never fade away from my childhood memory. It was the first time I saw the life behind the net. Throughout my textile practice, I’ve reconsidered the fishing net with curiosity and nostalgia. Behind its mesh and diamond shaped structure, I see craftsmanship and the story of its creation. I would like to preserve and encourage these precious values in the net with my project Sitting with the Fisherman. The fishing net is reinterpreted to everyday life as a sitting circle with a trace of stories within it. This project will be a pilot idea for others in different contexts, to preserve their precious traditional craftsmanship, to keep it alive by transforming the skill and technique into a new innovation.
Scenen där en motorcykeltaxiförare sitter och fingerstickar ett litet fiskenät bredvid kanalen kommer aldrig att blekna från mina barndomsminnen. Det var första gången jag såg livet bakom nätet. I mitt textilarbete har jag ofta återkommit till fiskenätet med både nyfikenhet och nostalgi. Bakom dess nät- och diamantformade struktur ser jag hantverksskicklighet och berättelsen om hur det tillverkades. Jag skulle vilja värna om och uppmuntra dessa dyrbara värden i nätet genom mitt projekt Sitting with the Fisherman. Fiskenätet omtolkas i vardagslivet som en berättarcirkel. Det här projektet kommer att fungera som pilotidé för andra i olika sammanhang – för att värna om deras värdefulla traditionella hantverksskicklighet och för att hålla dessa vid liv genom att omvandla färdighet och teknik till ny innovation.
