In my work, I examined the invented the concept of the hymen. A membrane that has been alleged to prove the woman’s virginity. I wanted to work with the anger and frustration of being cheated. But also to show the absurdity and to clarify that the bisarr in the concept. Finally, to be able to laugh at them, get stronger and go further. Biologi Direkt* from 2012, claiming that the hymen can rupture at any physical activity, exactly what I was worried about when I was younger, that I would suddenly end up in a bloody and embarrassing situation.
I have tried to find a possible timeline for the concept. By examining dictionaries, contacting researchers on the subject and agencys that teach in sexuality. I have also done a series of interviews to gain a greater insight into the concept of affected people’s lives, to understand the other been as affected as I was.

I mitt arbete har jag granskat det påhittade begreppet mödomshinna. En hinna som har menats kunna bevisa kvinnans oskuld. Jag ville arbeta med ilskan och frustrationen i att bli lurad. Men även att visa absurditeten och att klargöra orimligheterna av begreppet. För att slutligen kunna skratta åt dom, bli starkare och gå vidare. Biologi Direkt* från 2012 hävdar att mödomshinnan kan spricka vid all fysiskt aktivitet, precis det jag var orolig för som mindre, att jag plötsligt skulle hamna i en blodig och pinsam, situation.
Jag har försökt hitta begreppets eventuella tidslinje. Genom att granska ordböcker, kontakta forskare i ämnet och organ som undervisar i sexualitet. Jag har även gjort en intervjuserie för att få en större inblick i hur begreppet påverkat folks liv, för att förstå om andra blivit lika påverkade som jag.
